About UsThe Sandwich Community School was founded in 1974 as part
of a growing movement nationwide to make public schools more accessible to
the community. The idea was (and is) that if citizens are involved and
participate in educational and enrichment activities housed in the
schools, they will develop a sense of ownership. Along with this ownership
and loyalty, hopefully, will come both moral and financial support. In
states where funding was not cut throughout tax limiting initiatives, the
Community Schools have been forced to become more entrepreneurial.
Today, the Sandwich Community School is a vital part of the community. We
are proud to offer a wide variety of classes for children and adults. In
addition, the Sandwich Community School for Early Learning is a wonderful
resource for our families, offering childcare, early learning and
enrichment opportunities for children from 2-12 years of age. The pool
program offers lap swimming, adult aquatic exercise and children's
swimming lessons. As Sandwich has grown, we have continued to grow to meet
the needs of the town's people.
It is this entrepreneurial spirit that has allowed the Sandwich Community
School to not only survive but to grow from a total student registration
of 600 in 1974 to almost 20,000 registrations today.
