Kids & Teens / Driver's Ed. Driver's Education ~ New Regulations effective
September 1, 2007
Effective
September 1, 2007, the Registry of Motor Vehicles has developed a new driver
education program as a means of standardizing driver education throughout
the State. The aim of the new program is to ensure consistency among driver
education programs by standardizing the knowledge, skills and ability of
each student driver. The new program will consist of :
· 30
hours of classroom instruction for the student driver – this is unchanged
.12 hours of on-road instruction with a certified driver education
instructor- this is a 6 hour increase in driving time required by student
drivers
· 2-3
hour classroom instruction for parents-this is new and mandatory, and will
educate parents in the content of driver education curriculum, the junior
operator law, the restrictions a junior operating license carries and the
driving skills and behaviors their children should be learning.
Parents will be
required to log 40 road hours driving with their student.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you are 16 years of age and have your permit before
September 1, 2007, you are eligible to complete your “On the Road” training
under the old requirements. Call the Community School office to determine
whether your child is eligible.
